Introduction:

Definition:
A new field of knowledge emerged from the intersection of more than one traditional academic field or intellectual school as a result of the nature of new career requirements.

The Concept:
This concept has been previously used to describe educational and training studies by Using a variety of areas of established and concrete academic fields. Interdisciplinary studies embed researchers, students and faculty in an attempt to integrate a variety of academic schools, careers, and techniques for achieving joint visions and missions. Examples of interdisciplinary studies – thestudy of a variety of scientific topics and phenomena – are: “health information: A program in which computer sciences and community health intersect”; “Bio-mechanics: a program prepared jointly by Physical Education Departments, Mechanic Engineering, and Physiotherapy”; and“Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing: a program jointly prepared by the Departments of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Administration, and Social Sciences”.

The Significance of Interdisciplinary Studies:


Interdisciplinary studies have become a major demand in various career in the labor market to the extent that they are defined as future sciences. This, in turn, results in competitiveness among academic institutions to develop specific strategies for implementing academic studies and encouraging interdisciplinary academic research. Educational studies indicates an increasing demand on interdisciplinary studies in various academic areas. The intersection of concepts in academic areas is imperative on considering possible solutions of the most difficult problems that cannot be solved if framed in a limited traditional academic field. The significance of these interdisciplinary studies is manifested in the initiatives run by American National Sciences Foundation (NSF) and National Institute for Health (NIH), and adopted by training programs in world prestigious universities. The implementation of interdisciplinary programs and research result in high quality outcomes provided by integrative information and based on basic and natural sciences. Through these programs, the scholars will learn sciences from multiple perspective and choose what fits their vocational and career future they aspire for.

Workshop Objectives:


• Orientation on the concept of undergraduate interdisciplinary studies.
• Highlighting the significance of interdisciplinary studies in various specializations.
• Stating the perspectives of interdisciplinary studies programs.
• Establishing the concept of interdisciplinary studies for undergraduates in higher education.
• Reviewing local, regional, and international experiences in the area of interdisciplinary studies programs.
• Exploiting these local, regional, and international experiences in proposing new programs.
• Implementing new interdisciplinary studies programs in the University to meet the needs of the labor market.
• Identifying the obstacles that hinder the implementation of interdisciplinary studies programs.

• Distributing questionnaires on the attendants
