
ISD is responsible for ensuring the highest level of information security within the KSU community. It monitors security-related alerts and incidents and takes the appropriate proactive action. Towards this end ISD maintains and enhances security systems, tools and infrastructure with a series of developmental and enhancement projects in cooperation with other departments and teams.
The King Saud University Information Security Department’s goal is to improve the security of KSU’s information infrastructure while minimizing the threat of damage resulting from attacks and/or intrusions. It provides technical support in response to computer security incidents while ensuring the security of the network infrastructure.
Specific department objectives are:
- Analyzing security trends, trying to prevent upcoming incidents and mitigate the risks in a pro-active manner
- Monitor, report, resolve and prevent problems wherever and whenever possible in the following areas:
1. Systems security (Virus attacks on servers, user workstations and email systems as well as systems log monitoring)
2. Network security (firewall and IDS/IPS alerts analysis and response, intrusion detection and prevention, information theft mitigation, unauthorized access to the information resources from both outside and inside the KSU network protection)
- Monitoring availability of systems and information resources (servers, applications, databases)
- Providing vulnerability management across the network
- Implementing security connection requests from across the network
- Resolving security-related technical issues
- Maintaining ISD security infrastructure throughout KSU’s internal business network.
