Int’l Experiments Applied on Campus: ISTP Director
International Scientific Twinning Program (ISTP) is initiated to cement cooperation with international universities, said Dr. Saad Al-Husain, the ISTP direcotor, in an interview.
Resalah: What is the mission, vision, objectives of International Scientific Twinning Program (ISTP)?
Dr. Al-Husain: The vision: Reaching scientific twining and partnership with international universities. The mission: Fostering scientific and technological cooperation with advanced scientific centers and universities worldwide to upgrade the KSU to be a pioneering one. The overall objective: Developing the academic and research process and cementing cooperation ties with international universities.
Resalah: What are ISTP other objectives?
Dr. Al-Husain: Initiating twinning programs with international centers; making exchanging visits by faculty members to other time-honored universities more easy; enhancing postgraduate visits to other universities; and inking joint research contracts with other international universities.
Resalah: How many agreements inked?
Dr. Al-Husain: 43 agreements throughout one year.
Resalah: What are the future plans?
Dr. Al-Husain: The KSU seeks reaching partnership with Australian and Chinese universities. A team travelled to the two countries and the visits were fruitful; four agreements with China and five with Australia were inked.
Resalah: What is the twinning program mechanism?
Dr. Al-Husain: Pinpointing high esteemed universities; making a database to various universities and knowledge centers; and identifying needs of various colleges and departments of development programs.
Resalah: How did KSU benefit from other universities experiments?
Dr. Al-Husain: The KSU is keen on creating a better environment to scientific cooperation at all levels. It has taken this step after going thru major experiments worldwide, foremost of which were: UNESCO University Twinning Program, China Hopkins-Nanjing Center, UK University College – London twining program with University of Jerusalem in the West Bank and University of Al-Azhar in Gaza Strip. Also, the National University of Singapore (NUS) made an alliance with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Resalah: What about Arab experiments?
Dr. Al-Husain: Egypt started this year, forging teams to work out harmony in regulations between the Egyptian universities and European ones.
