Memories of Autistics Stronger than Normal: specialist

The autistics reach the puberty stage earlier or later than the normal people, said Dr. Ibrahim Al-Meaqal, professor of special education, in interview with Resalah newspaper.
Resalah: Are there any differences between those with disabilities and the normal in puberty phase?
Al-Meaqal: There are individual differences between those with disabilities, on one hand, and them and the normal, on the other. It depends on the degree and type of the disability. However, people with disabilities are subjected to the same changes to which the normal are subjected. Puberty phase may start earlier while in 10 years old, and may do late while in 13 0r 14 years old. It may also end earlier when 13. Some puberty signs may appear earlier, particularly with people who acquire autism. S/he may become puberty while six or nine years old.
Resalah: What are the changes of this phase with people with disabilities?
Al-Meaqal: A psychological conflict may occur due to the biological and psychological changes. A fast-paced growth causes worry for them and makes them, sometimes, feel lazy. There are other aspects to be borne in mind. The visually-impaired have stronger memory than normal.
Resalah: What are the problems people with disability face up?
Al-Meaqal: In the Arab world, the sharp shortage of services in community, hospitals or schools; specialized books; and social welfare institutions that can give advice to parents like training or information. In the USA, 80% of girls in teens and 50% of boys are subjected to sexual harassment. This is, of course, the responsibility of parents.
Resalah: Describe the preparation phase of people with disabilities?
Al-Meaqal: Good preparation requires good planning, and in special education things require sound preparation and strenuous efforts by parents, individuals, and public and private institutions. Everyone should exert efforts to achieve the integration of people with disabilities in the community. The government has enacted a law to guarantee the rights of man with disabilities. It establishes a supreme council for disabilities, as well.
