English for Dental Diploma Students

     The main aim of this course is to teach Reading Skills, such as previewing and prediction, comprehension, finding the main idea, scanning, skimming, predicting, making inferences and using the context to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words. New words are introduced in each lesson. The words are used through out the exercises in the lesson, and repeated several times in later lessons. There is also a context clues exercise that teaches some of the vocabulary in the unit.  Each unit also provides a section on synonyms to build up the vocabulary of the student. Because the new words are used in several different sentences, students learn how to use them in various contexts. The vocabulary moves  gradually from general English to scientific English.                         

Evaluation:

There are two midterm exams, each out of 25 and a final exam out of 50 points.
